TCM Therapy & Treatments For Holistic Wellness

Ease aches, calm stress, and feel renewed.

What is TCM Therapy?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapy is a holistic healthcare system that has been refined over thousands of years. It’s based on the belief that true wellness comes from achieving balance — between the body, mind, and environment — so that your body can heal and function naturally.

Unlike Western medicine, which often targets specific symptoms or conditions, TCM therapy focuses on restoring overall harmony. It views the body as an interconnected system where energy, known as Qi (pronounced “chee”), flows through invisible pathways called meridians. When this flow is disrupted, discomfort and illness can occur.

TCM therapy works to rebalance this energy through natural, non-invasive treatments such as acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, and herbal prescriptions. Each method aims to address the root cause of imbalance rather than just masking the symptoms.

In Singapore, more people are turning to TCM treatments as a trusted complement to modern healthcare — whether to manage stress, relieve chronic pain, boost immunity, or support recovery from illness.

With qualified practitioners regulated under the TCM Practitioners Board (Ministry of Health), patients can experience safe, evidence-informed care that bridges ancient wisdom with modern wellness needs.

TCM Treatments We Provide

At Common TCM, we offer a comprehensive range of TCM treatments in Singapore — combining traditional wisdom with modern methods to support your body’s natural ability to heal, rebalance, and restore. Each therapy is carefully customised to your condition and comfort level by our experienced TCM physicians.

TCM Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a well-known Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment that uses fine, sterile needles to stimulate specific acupoints and restore the body’s natural energy flow, or “qi.” This helps relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and improve circulation.

Commonly used for headaches, muscle tension, stress, and chronic pain, acupuncture supports natural healing and overall wellness without medication.

TCM Cupping Treatment

TCM Cupping uses gentle suction to stimulate blood flow, release muscle tightness, and promote faster healing. It helps ease back, neck, and shoulder pain while reducing fatigue and tension. This therapy also supports detoxification and improves overall circulation, making it a popular choice for relieving stress and restoring balance naturally.

Moxibustion Thermal Treatment

Moxibustion is a gentle heat therapy that involves burning dried mugwort (moxa) near specific acupuncture points to stimulate circulation and energy flow. It helps relieve fatigue, cold limbs, and digestive discomfort by strengthening the body’s vital energy. Usually applied to the abdomen or feet, it restores warmth, boosts immunity, and supports overall wellness.

Musculoskeletal Release and Correction

Musculoskeletal Release and Correction is a clinical treatment uses precise acupressure and manual techniques to release deep-seated tension and correct musculoskeletal imbalances. It offers a gentle, non-invasive approach that helps improve posture, reduce chronic pain, and restore mobility — suitable for individuals experiencing stiffness, joint discomfort, or stress-related muscle tightness.

Chinese Herbal Prescriptions

Chinese Herbal Prescriptions are tailored formulas created by our TCM physicians to target each patient’s unique health needs and body constitution. Using premium-grade medicinal herbs, these prescriptions work to restore balance, boost immunity, and support recovery from chronic or acute conditions. Every formula is carefully balanced to ensure safety, potency, and optimal therapeutic results.

Medicinal Herbal Bath

The Medicinal Herbal Bath is a soothing therapy rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, designed to relax the body while restoring balance and vitality. Warm water infused with carefully selected herbs helps to open the pores, improve circulation, relieve fatigue, and promote detoxification. This rejuvenating treatment supports both physical recovery and emotional calm, making it a holistic self-care experience.

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a holistic system that aims to restore balance in the body through natural therapies like acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, and herbal medicine. It focuses on improving energy flow (Qi), circulation, and the body’s self-healing ability rather than just treating symptoms.

  • Yes, TCM is generally safe when performed by licensed practitioners in Singapore. Side effects, if any, are mild — such as temporary soreness or light bruising after acupuncture or cupping. Common TCM’s treatments are administered under strict hygiene and safety standards to ensure comfort and peace of mind.

  • The number of sessions depends on your condition and health goals. Some patients feel improvement after 1–2 treatments, while chronic conditions may need a longer plan. Your TCM physician will recommend a schedule tailored to your needs after an initial consultation.

  • Yes. Many clients in Singapore use acupuncture and herbal therapy alongside Western treatments to aid recovery, manage pain, or reduce medication side effects. TCM works holistically to strengthen the body’s natural defences while complementing conventional care.

  • Some insurance plans in Singapore provide coverage for TCM, particularly under wellness or outpatient benefits. We recommend checking with your provider about your policy’s TCM entitlements before your visit.

  • TCM can support a wide range of issues, including muscle and joint pain, stress, insomnia, fatigue, digestive problems, women’s health, and post-injury recovery. It focuses on rebalancing your body’s internal systems to restore long-term wellness.

  • All registered TCM practitioners in Singapore are licensed by the TCM Practitioners Board (TCMPB) under the Ministry of Health. You can verify a physician’s credentials through the MOH Professional Registration System to ensure you’re receiving care from a certified professional.

  • Your first visit includes a consultation, where the physician reviews your health history and symptoms before recommending treatments such as acupuncture or herbal prescriptions. The process is comfortable, minimally invasive, and tailored to your individual condition.

  • Acupuncture points are neuro-sensitive points on the body that trigger nerve signaling when stimulated. Acupuncture treatment is then, the act of mechanical stimulation of these acupuncture points to achieve intended effects, for example, reduction of pain and inflammation. At Common TCM, the craft is perfected as our expert physicians finetune the acupuncture parameters and pay special attention to the location, direction, depth and strength of needle insertion.

  • Dry Needling:

A term commonly used by western practitioners and is a western technique. Also known as Trigger Point Therapy. Administered by physiotherapists. Utilizes fine, sterilized filiform needles based upon human anatomy and neurophysiological principles. The technique was developed to address most muscular pain and tension. Needles are used to trigger myofascial points and stimulate muscle release, mainly for pain relief. Most patients describe the experience alike to muscle spasm. Needles are not left on the body. Dry needling is not complemented with other therapies during the session.

    Acupuncture:

A technique unique to Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners. Administered by Chinese Medical physicians or licensed acupuncturists, mostly as a first-line treatment. Utilizes fine, sterilized filiform needles based upon a combination of both TCM Meridian principles and modern human muscular and neurological anatomy. Documented in the Emperor's Canon of Internal Medicine in 100 BCE, developed approximately 3000 years ago, the technique has evolved to treat and manage most internal and external pain conditions, acute or chronic issues. Needles are inserted at different depths and angles, dependent on its intended effects, either local or systemic. Patients will experience various types of stimulation at different points, including numbness, tingling, 'spicy' and electrical pulses. Stimulation can be adjusted to be mild or moderate. Commonly, acupuncture needles stay inserted for averagely 20-30 minutes. Treatment session may be complemented with electro-stimulation. TCM treatments and physiotherapy are often used in conjunction for conditions like Adhesive Capsulitis (frozen shoulder).

Heat Cupping | TCM Treatment
  • Heat Cupping is a treatment where heated glass cups with a vacuum compartment is placed on the skin to enable suction. This suction is an inverse pressure to improve blood circulation underneath the skin, through the muscle and soft tissue for pain relief, stress relief and relaxing stiff muscles. It can also be used to stimulate acupuncture points. Our distinct protocol: The techniques of Flash Cupping, Gliding Cupping and Suction Cupping are used interchangeably according to your condition. When deemed necessary by our physicians, it can be combined with acupuncture or blood letting treatment, or it can be used alone.

  • Cupping therapy can be done on most areas of the body, most commonly on the back, neck and shoulder and abdomen.

  • At Common TCM, our physicians must have been trained to adhere to safety precautions and possess adequate cupping competency before performing the therapy.

Moxibustion Thermal Treatment | TCM Wellness
  • Moxibustion is a thermal treatment pivoted upon the use of the medical herb, Artemisia, or Mugwort, 艾草. It is a popular treatment option for conditions such as breech birth and menstrual cramps, mainly due to it being non-invasive and natural. It is often used in combination with acupuncture.

  • Moxa heat is transmitted to the deep layers of the skin and the muscularis via polymodal receptors (PRs) of heat-sensitive acupoints. The treatment is generally considered to be a 'Yang' treatment which warms Meridian channels and stimulates Qi circulation.

  • Mugwort is burnt and positioned 1-2 inches above the skin at chosen acupuncture points for 30-40 minutes. This increases peripheral arterial blood flow and micro-vascular permeability which appears as a pinkish flush on the skin.

Musculoskeletal Release | TCM Wellness
  • Musculoskeletal Correction is a clinical approach that uses acupressure techniques to manipulate the body and joints, releasing tension and stress from the muscular and skeletal system. Developed by Common TCM, this method is clinically tested and designed to be gentle and painless.

  • While mild ache may be experienced during the corrective technique, it is generally well-tolerated and helps to alleviate pain and discomfort in affected areas by opening and stretching the muscles and fascia.

  • The technique realigns and restores function to the muscle and joints due to an increase in blood and oxygen flow to the muscles, improve range of motion, flexibility, and overall physical performance. It is a safe and effective approach to address a variety of musculoskeletal conditions and improve overall wellness.

  • MS Correction is effective in reducing stress, promoting relaxation, and improving sleep quality. By triggering the parasympathetic nervous system, the body's "rest and digest" response is activated, leading to a decrease in heart rate, breathing rate, and blood pressure. This helps to reduce stress and tension, and promotes a sense of relaxation and calm, making it a valuable addition to any wellness routine.

Chinese Herbal Prescriptions

Breaking Down:
Chinese Medicinal Herbs, Herbal Soup and Herbal Prescriptions

  • Chinese medicinal herbs, herbal soup, and herbal prescriptions are all components of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Herbal soup typically contains a small number of herbs that are boiled in water for a few hours to extract their active ingredients. The dosage of the herbs in a soup is usually lower than in a herbal prescription, as the concentration of the active ingredients is diluted by the water. As a result, herbal soups may be less potent than herbal prescriptions, but they can still be effective in treating mild health conditions or as a tonic for general health.

  • Herbal prescriptions are customized formulas of Chinese medicinal herbs that are prescribed by a TCM practitioner based on a patient's specific health condition and constitution. Herbal prescriptions can contain a larger number of herbs and are usually more potent than herbal soups, as the concentration of the active ingredients is higher. The dosage and the combination of herbs are carefully selected by the practitioner to optimize the effectiveness of the formula for the patient.

    See our physicians.

  • At Common TCM, you are not required to boil the herbs yourself. The available dosage forms include tablets, capsules, instant powder and herbal tea.

  • We stand firm towards authority guidelines. All our herbs are

    - HSA-regulated

    - Natural

    - Imported from Taiwan
