Traditional Chinese Medicine

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine, also known as TCM, is centuries old, and is a comprehensive system of medical practice used for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of various conditions.

  • The basic principle of TCM is the idea that the body is an interconnected system, with different parts and organs working together to maintain health. This is consistent with modern systems biology, which views the body as a complex, integrated system.

  • Some of the key differences:

Approach: TCM takes a holistic approach to health and wellness, viewing the body as a whole interconnected system. Western medicine focuses on treating specific symptoms or conditions.

Diagnosis: TCM diagnosis is based on a combination of observing physical symptoms, analyzing patient medical history, and taking into account the patient's emotional and mental state. In contrast, Western medicine relies on standard laboratory tests and imaging to diagnose illnesses.

Treatment: TCM treatments often involve a combination of different modalities, such as acupuncture, and herbal medicine, aimed at restoring balance and promotes natural healing. Western medicine uses drugs, surgery, and other procedures for treatment.

Personalization: TCM treatment is highly individualized, taking into account the unique characteristics and needs of each patient. Western medicine follows standardized treatment protocols.

Prevention: TCM places a strong emphasis on prevention and maintaining good health, whereas Western medicine focuses on treating an existing illness.
